Utilization of Crumb Rubber in the Production of Paving Blocks

Abstract

Crumb rubber is one in all the goods of rubber waste processing which can be used as a partial substitute for high-quality mixture in making paving blocks. This research aims to determine the values ​​of compressive strength, water absorption and specific gravity of paving blocks that use crumb rubber and to determine the quality of paving blocks that use crumb rubber with percentages of 0%, 3%, 4.5% and 6%. The test object made measures 10 x 20 x 8 cm. The compressive electricity check has the best value inside the version of using zero% crumb rubber, which is 18,350 MPa, decreasing to 10,150 MPa in the 6% variation. The water absorption test has the highest value for the 0% crumb rubber use variation, namely 2.315% and the lowest value for the 6% variation is 1.424%. The specific gravity test has the highest value in the 0% variation, namely 2106 kg/m³ and the lowest value in the 6% variation, namely 1934 kg/m³. Based on SNI 03-0691-1996, 0% variation corresponds to quality category B, 3% and 4.5% variation corresponds to quality category C and 6% variation corresponds to quality category D.
